There are opportunities to serve all around us. This service project was something that I thought my kids would really enjoy! I bought these containers at the dollar store, of all places, and the seeds were just as inexpensive. The idea is to plant the flower seeds in the containers and have my kids water and take care of them.
When they are in full bloom, I'll have my kids think of neighbors or friends that could use some flowers to brighten their day. It is a simple idea, but I hope that it will help teach them the value of hard work and service.
Along the way, I plan to use the various stages of the plants' growth to teach my kids. For example, Faith is like a little seed. You need to continually water and nourish your seed every day. For a little while, you might not see what your hard work is producing. But as the days and weeks go on you finally see the fruits of all your hard work, beautiful flowers!!!
Similarly, we have to continually water and nourish our seed of faith with prayer, scripture study, obeying his commandments and including the Lord in our lives daily. Like the little seed, we will one day see the beautiful fruits of labors, our testimony of Jesus Christ.
I hope this simple idea will inspire your family to do this service project or think of one of your own that would help others around you!
This time of year we often talk about setting goals which, for the crazy list person that I am, I love! However, today I wanted to write about our dreams and wishes. Those things deep in our heart that we hope will happen but would be impossible to achieve without divine assistance. My mom has always said, "Write down your hopes and dreams for the year, pray for help and you'll be surprised by how many of those dreams on your list actually come true."
Here are some categories to consider in thinking about your dreams:
Family (Think about your family as a whole,
but also your hopes for each child)
Business or career if you have one
I believe in a loving Heavenly Father who knows our dreams and the desires of our hearts and has the power to make all of the things that seem impossible possible with his help. So along with our goals let's also give our dreams and wishes to the Savior and to our Heavenly Father this year and see miracles happen in our lives.
